Up for your consideration is a set of 4 empty reproduction early war M1911 .45 ACP 20 round ammunition cartons, with 1 each of the FRANKFORD ARSENAL (FA), WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS COMPANY (WRA), WESTERN CARTRIDGE COMPANY (WCC), and REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY (REM) labels.
Model 1911 ball rounds were first manufactured at Frankford Arsenal starting in August 1911, with contract manufacturing continuing with the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. starting in December 1912. Western Cartridge Co. joined the list of manufacturers of M1911 ball when they submitted rounds that were later used in the 1930 National Matches. At that time all .45 ACP ammunition was packed in 20 round cartons for ease in filling shipping boxes. Between WWI and WWII, Frankford Arsenal was the primary military small arms ammunition supplier, with the other manufacturers supplying commercial ammunition for civilian use. Then, in the build-up to WWII, contracts were once again given to the commercial manufacturers to help fill increasing demand by the military. Western Cartridge Company received the first contract in late 1940, followed by Remington Arms Company and Winchester Repeating Arms. By 1942, with the U.S. now in the war and new ammunition plants coming on line, the 20 round cartons were phased out in favor of 50 round cartons due to the high volume being produced, and a reconfiguration in the shipping boxes.
Each "Buy It Now" single purchase is for 4 unassembled cartons with dividers and 1 of each label. The cartons, dividers and labels will be shipped flat, with assembly instructions, and the shipping is free within the U.S. I had a lot of these made, so if you want multiple sets, just change the purchase quantity before you click on the "Buy It Now" button.
